Understanding Financial Statements Attend the introductory class to understanding financial statements. Taught by Evelyn Law, CPA, Partner of RubinBrown LLP. This course covers: Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, Statement of Functional Expenses, Statement of Cash Flows, Notes to the Financial Statements, and Key Financial Ratios.
Board Leadership Agency Learn the overall nominating process, from examining organizational needs to the first board meeting, so that new board members can join your organization with a greater awareness of the mission and the work the organization does. We highly encourage the Executive Director to bring the board chair and/or the nominating committee chair to the training.
Engaging Skilled Volunteers This workshop is a hands-on session designed to help agencies develop a work plan and a skilled volunteer position/program description. Participants are guided through two hands-on activities to give you a clear definition of your project, help you fine-tune it, and talk about the next steps to get it off the ground.
*Engaging Volunteers Effectively This one-day workshop will provide you with a comprehensive approach to planning for and implementing a top-notch volunteer program. Topics to be covered are: current trends, planning for the program, recruitment, interviewing and selection, orientation and training, and supervision, recognition and evaluation of the volunteer program.
*Engaging Volunteers with Disabilities Create an inclusive environment and effectively engage volunteers with mental and physical disabilities. You’ll learn general disability etiquette/sensitivity training, making space accessible, using assistive technology, employing a virtual volunteering program, and recruiting and supporting prospective candidates at all levels within the organization including board members.
*Evaluating Your Volunteer Program Learn different types of evaluation, the different evaluation methods, writing strong questions, and how to determine what to evaluate. Then with your colleagues, we’ll work on your materials for discussion and feedback.
**Neighboring Neighboring in an inclusive volunteer engagement strategy that provides participants with tools and skills to create asset based relationships. It empowers, individuals, non-profits, neighborhoods, community based organizations and community members to connect on the basis of assets to overcome barriers. They learn to value what each brings to the table and build a mutually rewarding relationship while creating sustainable solutions to community identified issues.
**Engaging Corporate Volunteers & Employee Groups What do nonprofits need to know to successfully engage with employee volunteers and corporate volunteer programs? What do companies look for in a nonprofit partner? What kinds of projects and opportunities appeal to employers looking to develop their teams? How can corporations and nonprofit organizations collaborate and leverage their strengths to achieve the highest level of social impact? This training will introduce best practices for working with corporations and give real-world examples of successful corporate volunteer engagement. This program will also give an overview of planning tools to help create successful volunteer projects or Day of Service projects. We’ll then discuss creative ways by which our nonprofit community can bring value and strategy to the business community, enhance the civic engagement goals of the business community, and expand your organization’s capacity to deliver services.
