  • Are you talking with neighbors and friends about challenges and issues in your community and would like to turn the conversations into actions that better your neighborhood through Neighboring.
  • Do you see solutions to problems and are not sure where to find the resources or relationships to make things happen?
  • Are there people in your area you would like to connect with but struggle with how to begin a relationship and keep it real?

Metro Volunteers Neighboring Program teaches you to create sustainable solutions to community challenges, issues and dreams. It also increases community involvement and builds neighborhood leadership. The concept of Neighboring ensures that neighborhood assets, beliefs and thoughts are reflected in how the community is being served.  Everyone, at some point, needs a hand. This philosophy creates a hand up, vs. a hand out, where needs and wants, challenges and solutions reflect the community. It supports win-win relationships by providing tools to effectively engage and empower individuals and groups.

Neighboring works with individuals, partnerships, communities and neighborhoods.  It allows community based organizations and community members to connect on the basis of assets and overcome barriers.  They learn to value what each brings to the table and build a mutually rewarding relationship.

Potential outcomes of this program are:

  • An opportunity for every voice to be heard, even those voices you recognize as missing
  • Greater understanding of your community and its needs
  • Identification and empowerment of neighborhood leaders who reflect your neighborhoods’ concerns
  • More effective partnerships between community based organizations and  community members
  • Sustainable solutions based upon recognized neighborhood assets and the skills to use them

This workshop is presented by Cheryl Clark. As a dynamic trainer/consultant and owner of The Clark Group, which specializes in inclusive strategies, Cheryl’s approach empowers participants to find manageable sustainable solutions.
