Meet
our Volunteer of the Month
Jessica Vom Steeg
- Volunteer for There With Care
There With Care is a non-profit that provides
day-to-day support to families with critically ill
children. Some of the services we provide are
waiting-room babysitting for siblings (so that a parent
can be with their ill child), grocery delivery,
transportation to/from treatments, legal advice,
therapy, housecleaning, massage – services that help
ease the burden for the family going through this
difficult time. We also have a program
which delivers a meal each week to families at the
neo-natal ICU at Presbyterian/St. Luke's Hospital.
The organization is grass roots and provides
service yet also provides a personal sense of caring
to families during a time of crisis. We would not
be able to provide these special services to our
families without our caring and dedicated
volunteers.
That's where Jessica Vom Steeg enters the picture.
Jessica inspires all of us at There With Care.
Since the first day of her service, she has
brightened the lives of the children and families
she has served as well as all of us within the
organization. Jessica has brought many wonderful
ideas and coordinated valuable and helpful programs
for families such as Parent's Catch Up Night at The
Ronald McDonald House where she and other volunteers
babysit the children allowing parents a few hours to
pay bills, make calls, run errands or simply take a
nap.
In
her family service she has collected and delivered
clothing and personal items to a young man in the
hospital who lost everything in a fire, delivered
thousands of pounds of groceries to families all
over the Denver Metro area, delivered furniture,
babysat siblings in the hospital waiting room,
driven patients to/from the hospital, become a
mentor & friend to a young person going through
cancer treatment and so much more.
Not
only does she donate her time to families, she also
has worked at events, serves as Secretary of the
Board and coordinates the referrals we receive from
The Children's Hospital Denver, Presbyterian St.
Luke's Hospital, HospiceCare of Boulder & Broomfield
County and Metro Hospice of Denver. Because of her
help, the flow of volunteer applications, donation
letters, etc. are kept in order allowing us the
ability to accept more families and expand our work
throughout the area.
The
most important service Jessica has given is her love
and care to families during a difficult time. She
continues to teach us all how simple acts of
kindness really do change the world.
