TeamWorks Session 2 Back To Main

Session 2: Homelessness and Hunger - January 30 to March 5

  • Session Description: The Homelessness and Hunger session will volunteer at variety of non-profit organizations serving Denver’s homeless community and working to end homelessness. As a team we will explore the many causes that lead to homelessness, the cyclical nature of continued homelessness, and our society’s misperceptions of homelessness. We will learn how we can effect a positive change and be a part of the Denver’s goal to end homelessness.

  • Opening at Metro Volunteers - January 30, 5:30-7:30pm (required)           The team will meet each other for the first time and discuss TeamWorks and session details.  Additionally, we will have a special guest speaker to help educate us on the complexity of homelessness.  Dinner will be potluck style.

  • Brandon Center - February 6, 6:30-8:00pm
The Brandon Center a division of Volunteers of America, serves women and children who are experiencing homelessness or are the victims of domestic violence situations.  Volunteers will be holding a special valentine card party for the shelter’s children.

  • Denver Rescue Mission - February 11, 7:00-9:00pm
At their Lawrence Street Facility, the Denver Rescue Mission provides three meals a day to anyone who is homeless or hungry.  In addition to providing meals, the facility also provides shelter, clothing, client services, and a medical clinic.  Volunteers will help prepare and serve dinner to approximately 200 individuals at the Rescue Restaurant!

  • Food Bank of the Rockies - February 20, 12:30-3:30pm
*Service followed by coffee gathering (optional, but highly encouraged)
The mission of Food Bank of the Rockies is to end hunger by efficiently procuring and distributing food and essentials to people in need throughout our partner agencies in Northern Colorado and Wyoming.  Volunteers will help pack boxes for distribution.  Through our volunteer efforts, we will earn credit for Delores Project to buy additional food items from Food Bank of the Rockies.

  • Delores Project – February 27, 5:30-8:00pm
The Delores Project’s mission is to provide safe, comfortable overnight shelter and services to unaccompanied adult women who are homeless and have limited resources.  The model of service is one of hospitality, respect and regard for the dignity of each guest.  At Delores Projects, volunteers will be providing the women with a home cooked meal and sharing dinner with the residents.  Volunteers may also assist the women in completing their evening chores.

  • Closing at Metro Volunteers - March 5, 5:30-7:30pm (required)
At this event the Team will reflect on the previous five weeks and celebrate our accomplishments.  We will discuss what we have learned and how we can continue to take action to effect positive change.  Dinner will be provided.
