2: Homelessness and Hunger - January 30 to March 5

Session Description:
The Homelessness
and Hunger session will volunteer at variety of
non-profit organizations serving Denver’s
homeless community and working to end
homelessness. As a team we will explore the many
causes that lead to homelessness, the cyclical
nature of continued homelessness, and our
society’s misperceptions of homelessness. We
will learn how we can effect a positive change
and be a part of the Denver’s goal to end
homelessness.

Opening at Metro
Volunteers - January 30, 5:30-7:30pm

The team will
meet each other for the first time and discuss
TeamWorks and session details. Additionally, we
will have a special guest speaker to help
educate us on the complexity of homelessness.
Dinner will be potluck style.

Brandon Center - February 6, 6:30-8:00pm
The Brandon Center a division of Volunteers of
America, serves women and children who are
experiencing homelessness or are the victims of
domestic violence situations. Volunteers will
be holding a special valentine card party for
the shelter’s children.

Denver
Rescue Mission - February 11, 7:00-9:00pm
At their Lawrence Street Facility, the Denver
Rescue Mission provides three meals a day to
anyone who is homeless or hungry. In addition
to providing meals, the facility also provides
shelter, clothing, client services, and a
medical clinic. Volunteers will help prepare
and serve dinner to approximately 200
individuals at the Rescue Restaurant!

Food Bank of the Rockies - February 20, 12:30-3:30pm
*Service followed by coffee gathering (optional,
but highly encouraged)
The mission of Food Bank of the Rockies is to
end hunger by efficiently procuring and
distributing food and essentials to people in
need throughout our partner agencies in Northern
Colorado and Wyoming. Volunteers will help pack
boxes for distribution. Through our volunteer
efforts, we will earn credit for Delores Project
to buy additional food items from Food Bank of
the Rockies.

Delores Project – February 27, 5:30-8:00pm
The Delores Project’s mission is to provide
safe, comfortable overnight shelter and services
to unaccompanied adult women who are homeless
and have limited resources. The model of
service is one of hospitality, respect and
regard for the dignity of each guest. At
Delores Projects, volunteers will be providing
the women with a home cooked meal and sharing
dinner with the residents. Volunteers may also
assist the women in completing their evening
chores.

Closing at Metro Volunteers - March 5, 5:30-7:30pm (required)
At this event the Team will reflect on the
previous five weeks and celebrate our
accomplishments. We will discuss what we have
learned and how we can continue to take action
to effect positive change. Dinner will be
provided.
